Recycled Content of Our Steel

Duro Span Steel uses only AZ180 (AZ60) Galvalume Plus coated steel when manufacturing their buildings. Galvalume Plus offers exceptional corrosion resistance and heat reflectivity, resulting in lower energy load and improved comfort. Additionally, Galvalume Plus steel is used due to its recycled content and the fact that it can be recycled post-use. This ensures reduced waste, pollution and an overall reduction of Duro Span Steel’s “footprint” on the environment.

In fact, the total recycled content found in steel that is manufactured in Canada and used for Duro Steel buildings is a minimum of 25% and can be greater than 95% depending on the steel making process. Both these values represent industry leading levels of recycled content. Steel is the world's most recycled material, and in North America, over 70 million tons of steel are recycled or exported for recycling annually.

Solar Reflectivity

The Galvalume Plus coating protects against non-uniform weathering and reduces energy loads on buildings due to its bright surface that aids in heat reflectivity. Duro Span Steel’s Galvalume Plus coating maintains the EPA solar reflectance requirement of 0.65 on newly manufactured buildings and the minimum of 0.50 on roofs over three years for age. Galvalume Plus coated steel has been approved by the Energy Star program, both for low-slope and high-slope applications.

The Galvalume Plus coating also acts as a thermal barrier to keep the insides of steel buildings cool in summer. This means that Duro Steel buildings use less energy, hence saving you money and the environment through reduced energy costs over the life of the building.

Conversely, Duro Steel buildings not only reflects heat in summer, but also retains heat inside during cooler months, saving on heating costs and keeping the indoor environment healthy and comfortable all year round.

Adaptability for energy efficient accessories and features

Duro Span Steel Buildings are designed to be adaptable for retrofitting quality Energy Efficient Windows, HVAC systems, insulation products along with solar systems for reduced electrical consumption, which results in a lesser strain on the "grid".
